Product Recommendation | Core Semiconductor Technology MOSFET Products Applicable to PD3.1 Standard

Release time:2023/08/16 Reading frequency:1,497

USB Promoter Group released USB PD3.1 on May 26, 2021, which expanded the standard power range of the original PD3.0 to Extended Power Range (EPR), with a maximum power coverage of up to 240W. Currently, more and more customers are expanding their product power range to EPR.

Extended power range (Extended Power Range, EPR)

Xindao Technology has developed a series of power device products for the above applications, helping customers quickly and reliably design products that comply with PD3.1 specifications. Taking the most common EPR-140W (28V5A) system as an example, the impact of PD3.1 on the power supply end is mainly reflected in the increase of the original maximum output voltage from 20V to 28V. Based on the consideration of power conversion efficiency, the power topology will also prioritize PFC+LLC. LLC synchronous rectification MOS that is compatible with 28V output usually requires a voltage withstand device of 65V or higher to be more suitable.

The PSM8N065R3 from Xindao Technology has a 65V withstand voltage, a 2.5 Ω conduction resistance, excellent FOM value, and specially optimized gate drive capability and switch EMI characteristics adapted to synchronous rectification controllers. This product has been selected by multiple customers and is very suitable for building a 140W power supply system.

The receiving end of the EPR-140W system also needs to increase the internal components from the original 30V withstand voltage to 40V withstand voltage due to the maximum output voltage increasing from 20V to 28V.

The 40V series MOSFETs of Xindao Technology, such as PSM8PN04R4, are specifically designed for OVP applications in power receiving equipment. This series of products uses DFN3333-8L and other smaller packages, and improves EAS capability through optimized design, allowing the devices to withstand higher impact energy and providing protection for customers with a 140W power receiving system.
